Kerajaan rugi RM70 juta batal loji sinakut

DALAM sidang Dewan Parlimen kelmarin, Menteri Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air telah menjawab soalan bertulis saya (Sepanggar) mengenai pembatalan projek penjanaan 300 Megawatt Loji Arang Batu di Sinakut, Tungku.

 

Menteri KeTTHA mengesahkan bahawa pemilik projek terpaksa membayar pampasan ganti rugi kepada pihak kontraktor USD22.5 juta sebagai pembayaran muktamad bagi kontrak yang telah ditandatangani.

Local energy company Lahad Datu Energy Sdn Bhd paid RM68.2 million (US$22.5 million) as compensation to a China-based contractor for a coal-fired power plant project in Sabah that was scrapped.

In a written reply to Eric Enchin Majimbun (SAPP-Sepanggar) in Parliament today, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin said the compensation was the final payment based on the contract.

East Coast to get 300MW natural gas-powered plant

Finally conceding to what SAPP has been demanding for almost 3 years, the State government finally announced that a 300-megawatt (MW) natural gas-powered plant is set to take shape in the east coast of Sabah to replace the scrapped coal-fired Plant.

Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah said the state govemment was discussing with the national oil company, Petronas, and was close to obtaining a commitment to set up a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal to supply power in the east coast of the state.

As the people of Sabah heave a sigh of relief that "Sabah people power" has defeated the bullying tactics of the BN government over the coal-fired power plant proposal in Sabah, some remaining matters need to be addressed by the government. The controversial coal plant was one of two coal electricity generation plants announced by the Prime Minister when tabling the 10th Malaysia Plan (2011 to 2015) in Parliament on 10 June 2010.

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 16 — Sabah decided to scrap the controversial Lahad Datu coal-fired power plant, saying today it will look for alternative energy sources after a three year-long campaign by environmentalists.

“I am pleased to announce that Federal and State governments has agreed to pursue other alternative sources of energy namely gas to meet Sabah’s power supply needs.

“I know there has been certain objections to the proposed coal powered plant. Today is proof that such objections have not fallen on deaf ears,” Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said in a statement released this afternoon.
