PBS never stopped fighting for Sabahans?

KOTA KINABALU:  Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan under heavy pressure from his Umno-Barisan Nasional bosses to reel-in his younger and politically ‘wayward’ brother Jeffrey, called him a  ‘liar’ and lumped him together with other ‘lying opposition leaders’.

Pairin, who is president of Parti Bersatu Sabah, said his party had “never stopped fighting” for the people.

”PBS never stopped fighting for the people’s future including Article 20 of Malaysia Agreement and oil royalties…,” he said alluding to Jeffrey’s consistent claim that the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, of which PBS is a member, had  failed to uphold the terms of the 1963 agreement.

Jeffrey, who heads the State Reform Party (STAR) Sabah Chapter, has carved his Borneo Agenda around the demand for the federal government to honour the terms of the Malaysia Agreement, reinstate and recognise Sabah and Sarawak as ‘autonomous’ nations which came together with Singapore and the Federated Malaya to ink the agreement.

Dubbed the ‘state’s autonomy champion’, Jeffrey was imprisoned without trial under the infamous Internal Security Act (ISA) in 1991 for allegedly having secessionist views during the rule of PBS from 1986 to 1994.

Undaunted, the political maverick, has remained at the forefront of the issue and has taken on ‘historians’ and politicians who have disputed his perspectives of the 20-Point agreement.

Yesterday Pairin pleaded with participants at the ‘Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ programme in Kampung Dabata in Tambunan saying “the good ties between the federal government and state government must be preserved”.

“Prime Minister Najib’s people friendly leadership has allowed us to raise issues with him including the RCI (Royal Commission of Inquiry against illegals) formation.

“We expressed our feelings and he (Najib) listened. We also raised issues mentioned by the opposition. But (unlike them) we don’t tell lies to people.

“They are lying to the people. You are familiar with them including my own brother (Jeffrey) who keep switching parties claiming it was for the love of the people.

“He (Jeffrey) took his friends from Yayasan Sabah with him and as a result we lost the Kadazandusun people there,” said Pairin.

‘Pairin under pressure’

Pairin’s attack on Jeffrey is seen as a first political swipe in a battle schedule to take place in Keningau in the impending 13th general election.

Keningau is among the hotseats of the Kadazandusun community. STAR has already declared that it will be contesting in all KDM seats.

Jeffrey, himself, has declared that he will again face his brother for the Keningau parliamentary seat.

Pairin, who is the Huguon Siau (paramount leader) of the Kadazandusuan community has held the seat for 30 years.  In 2008 Jeffrey took on Pairin for the Keningau parliamentary seat but was defeated.

Meanwhile Jeffrey recently told FMT that Pairin was under “tremendous” pressure from within his party PBS and Umno.

But like Bernard Dompok, who is Upko president, Pairin is not likely to do anything drastic.
“Both Dompok and my brother have lived off (and soaked in) Umno’s benevolence for too long.
“They cannot leave now or do anything to the contrary,” Jeffrey said.

PBS and Upko are seen as the primary victims of Jeffrey’s Borneo Tea Parties (BTP), which is a series of political awareness talks that is anchored in the terms of the Malaysia Agreement and Sabah rights that have been since compromised and or lost as a result of Umno-BN’s ‘fuedal’ policies.

Since its launch in 2010, the BTPs have reached thousands of Sabahans and there is a noticeable change of views permeating the grassroots especially among younger KDMs.

‘Star’s direction crystal clear’

The party’s primary agenda is to convey to Sabahans the ‘true’ socio-economic and political situation in the state and it is doing this through its legion of young and upwardly mobile professionals (yuppie) members who liken themselves to  the biblical ‘messengers’.

The BTPs extensive grassroot reach appears to be rattling BN leaders in the state.

In a series of rebuttals recently Jeffrey took on State Legislative Assembly Speaker Salleh Keruak,  Sabah BN  secretary Rahman Dahlan, Tuaran and Beaufort MPs Wilfred Bumburing and Lajim Ukin for their ‘ignorance’ in regards to the Malaysia Agreement and its importance to Sabah and Sabahans.

Yesterday Jeffrey took Lajim to task for stating that STAR had ‘no clear direction’.

In a curt statement he said: “STAR’s direction is crystal-clear. [In fact, we are] the clearest among all the parties in Sabah.

“STAR Sabah seeks the restoration of Sabah as one of three equal partners in Malaysia and its struggle is made clear with the Borneo Agenda and its seven core demands.

“Sabah and Sarawak did not join Malaysia as the 12th and 13th states.

“It’s regretful that Lajim and Bumburing are still unclear about how to go about with their leadership direction and struggle for Sabah,” he reportedly said.

  1. PROCLAMATION OF MALAYSIA

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful, Praise to God, the Lord of the Universe, and may the benediction and peace of God be upon Our Leader Muhammad and upon all his Relations and Friends.

WHEREAS by an Agreement made on the Ninth day of July in the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-three between the Federation of Malaya, the United Kingdom, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore it was agreed that there shall be federated the States of Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore with the Federation of Malaya comprising the states of Pahang, Trengganu, Kedah, Johore, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Selangor, Perak, Perlis, Penang and Malacca, and that the Federation shall thereafter be called "MALAYSIA":

It is clear that Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore federated with the Federation of Malaya.

Tan Sri, recently, MP Kota Belud said that Sabah is 1 of 13 states. Did Tan Sri and PBS or other PBS leaders raise any objection to that stupid and offensive statement from MP Kota Belud?

If you cannot even raise an objection to such an offensive statement, how can you protect Sabah?

    1. UNDERSTAND YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

In relation to the above comment a closer look at the agreements will help a lot in understanding the "equal partnership" issue. It depends on how you read the documents.

Two notable features supporting this argument is that the Malaysia Agreement deliberately establish the separate High Court of Borneo and Sabah and Sarawak right to control immigration.

We all need to go back and read up the AGREEMENTS surrounding Malaysia "information".

Many people complain that they do not know where to find them.

These documents are filed with the UN and also on this link:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3AAgreement_Relating_to_Malaysia_between_UK%2C_N._Borneo%2C_Sarawak_and_Singapore.djvu&page=1

This link will help as it contains the Constitution of Sabah, Sarawak & S'pore for comparison.

Sabah & Sarawak Constitutions are very similar.

FOR everyone's enlightenment the respective constitutions say that

      1. Sabah Constitution Clause 41 says The Yang di-pertua negara ...to safeguard special position of the natives and the legitimate interests of other communities.

Sarawak constitution clause 39 says the same things.

      2. Both Sabah & S'wak Constitution Clause 6(5) Say the CM shall not hold any office of profit and shall not actively engage in any commercial enterprise.

So the question is in the last 49 years none of the "Governors" of Sabah or Sarawak have done anything to protect the legitimate interests of native landowners not to mention other communities.

Further the Constitutions prohibit the CM from holding office of profit and not engage in any commercial enterprise.

The online web journal Sarawak Report has compiled and exposed established beyond doubt records of the Sarawak CM Taib flagrant breaches of both prohibitions.

Now Sarawak Report has also exposed CM Musa.

What do you do when your CM is breaking the law and the constitution?

Another matter which Sabahans may find very surprising is that the Malaysia Agreement was signed on 31 July 1963 and Sabah became independent on 31 August 1963 and Malaysia was declared on 16 September 1963.

The point is whether since Sabah became independence how does the Msia Agreement bind Sabah in "Malaysia"??? So where is the "State of Sabah" as it was still a colony on 31 July???

In Sarawak case it is slightly different since it became independent on 22 July 1963 and the Msia Agreement was signed on 31 July.

The Sabah independence argument about is a separate argument from that of the Malaysia Agreement being not binding because the composition of Malaysia change after S'pore left in 1965.

May be all you lawyers out there want to chew over these points?

    2. In Sarawak case it is slightly different since it became independent on 22 July 1963 and the Msia Agreement was signed on 31 July.

Correction- The Malaysia Agreement was signed on 9 July 1963 so the Sabah independence argument should apply to Sarawak since it became independent on 22 July 1963.

"Under the Malaysia Agreement signed between Great Britain and the Federation of Malaya, Britain would enact an Act to relinquish sovereign control over Singapore, Sarawak and North Borneo (now Sabah). This was accomplished through the enactment of the Malaysia Act 1963, clause 1(1) of which states that on Malaysia Day, Her Majesty’s sovereignty and jurisdiction in respect of the new states shall be relinquished so as to vest in the manner agreed[8]"
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Agreement

The above paragraph from Wikipedia shows that the Malaysia Agt was not signed by S'pore Sabah or Sarawak on their on behalf as independent states but between UK and Malaya.

This shows that especially for Sabah and Sarawak the 2 colonies did not have much say about Malaysia. So is it binding from this point of view when we did not sign the agreement???

Malaysia was formed on 16 September 2012. Why is Tan Sri acknowledging 55 years of Malaysia when Chief Minister launched the 55th celebrations of Malaysia a few days ago? Can Tan Sri explain why the hypocrisy and distortion of history? Is Malaysia formed on 16 September 2012 or 31 August 1957?

  18. Mslaysia ditubuhkan 16 Sept 1963, 49 tahun dulu.
Janji Ditepati ...

Banyak lagi janji-janji ditepati sehingga Sabah negeri termiskin diMalaysia.

Masih percaya PBS? Masih mahu undi PBS? Masih mahu Sabah dihancurkan lagi dan kekal paling miskin?
