KUALA LUMPUR - The police today assured the security of residents in four of the five areas that were affected by the clashes between armed intruders and the security forces in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
Bukit Aman Federal Police Director of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid said the four villages were Kampung Tanduo, Kampung Tanjung Batu, Kampung Labian and the Tanjung Bilis area.
"The subsequent plan is to bring back the residents to their respective homes and live as usual," he told reporters after the handing over of contributions from the Ministry of Information communication and Culture to eight families of the police personnel who were killed in the clashes, at the Police Training Centre, here Friday.
The contributions amounting to RM10,000 to each of the widows, 19 netbooks and RM200 for the children of the police personnel killed, were handed over by Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim. Also present was Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
In his speech, Ismail said the contributions showed the deep concern of the ministry for the sacrifices made by the security forces in ensuring that national sovereignty and security were protected.
The intrusion incident since Feb 12 had resulted in the death of 10 members of the security forces comprising eight police personnel and two military personnel.
