Star: Anwar's announcement an insult

KOTA KINABALU - Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced yesterday that Pakatan would only work with its partners and Barisan Nasional defectors, Beufort MP Datuk Lajim Ukin and Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Bumburing, who had aligned themselves with the national opposition grouping.

Offended by Anwar’s announcement, the local-based Sabah opposition parties have threatened to withhold their support for Pakatan Rakyat following its plan to go it alone in the state.

State Reform Party (STAR) Sabah chapter chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the announcement by Anwar that Pakatan would not work with Sabah-based opposition parties was insulting.

“They have no respect for our local parties. How do you expect them to respect Sabah rights and autonomy when they can’t even respect us?” said Jeffrey, whose party had previously asked national-based opposition parties to stay out of Sabah.

SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee meanwhile said that his party was prepared to face the general election on its own.

“Our machinery will now support candidates from STAR in seats where we are not contesting,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after a two-day visit here, Anwar hinted that Pakatan was worried about the loyalty of local opposition parties.

Anwar said Pakatan would not attack fellow opposition candidates as its focus was to defeat UMNO and Barisan.

With the latest development, many state and parliamentary seats in Sabah would see multi-cornered contests by candidates from Barisan, Pakatan and local-based opposition parties.

  1. GREAT NEWS THAT SAPP & STAR ARE WORKING TOGETHER!

Congratulations! It is very magnanimous of SAPP to assist STAR in the election in areas where it is not standing candidates.

To take back control of Sabah is the main objectives for all Sabah patriots.

The best way to do it is to form a united national salvation front of genuine Sabah parties to save Sabah from another 50 years of Malayan colonial rule.

SAPP and STAR are not that far apart. You have to bury differences for Sabah's sake.

There is an event horizon that is coming up for Sabah.

The Philippines government has invited its media to drop using the offensive word "Malaysia" when referring to Sabah in an apparent move to strengthen its claim on Sabah.

The Malaysian Insider which carries this news report is now under DDOS attack.

This is a major event as one nation in the world this practically de-recognising Malaysia sovereignty over Sabah.

The Philippines is challenge Malaya's control of Sabah.

This is a confluence of events where Sabahans are given an opportunity to stand up and assert their right of self-determination and demand that Malaya de-colonise Sabah!

And both Malaya and the Philippines should withdraw their claim and let Sabah be independent free from any external threats.
