GE13: DAP accuses PKR and PAS losses due to greed
Sabah DAP chairman Jimmy Wong Sze Phin reminded PKR to learn their lesson from last general election when they lost all the seats they contested due to their greed.
Wong said that it is really a disaster when the President of PAS announced that PAS wants to contest the Merotai state seat and Batu Sapi MP seat whilst these 2 seats are still in the process of negotiation between the 2 parties.
Jimmy said “I sincerely hope that PAS will seriously reconsider this demand and don’t forget the lesson in last election that the opposition failed to capture Putrajaya even though we (PR) had captured more votes than the BN and only DAP managed to capture Sri Tanjong and Kota Kinabalu.”
Jimmy Wong hopes the seats squabbles will be resolved amicably and he discloses that DAP originally is planning to contest 5 MP seats and 12 State seats but being allocated only 4 MP seats and 7 State seats and DAP will be marginalized if Merotai and Batu Sapi seats are given to PAS and this will seriously dilute DAP’s influence in the Chinese area. He also emphasizes that PR’s infighting will definitely alienate the voters and lose their votes.
DAP’s Information Chief Chan Foong Hin also clarifies that DAP has not demanded all the 8 Chinese constituencies, 2 seats KK and Elopura have been given to PKR. “We have no problem if PKR wants to contest in Tawau but they need to give up Penampang. They refuse and we manage to get Kepayan instead.”
Chan is responding to a news report that PKR or PAS plans to contest together in certain areas, and he says he fully understands their supporters desire to see their leaders can be chosen as candidates, but the truth is they do not understand the whole situation, especially PAS supporters’ anxiety that their party have failed to establish a strong foothold in Sabah. But the Merotai seat has been agreed earlier on that if DAP will contest in Merotai if LDP is contesting, and PAS will contest in Kalabakan to face BN’s Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh.
Chan says he hopes that the PR senior leaders will look at the big picture and stop issuing those conflicting and unconstructive statements to confuse the voters.
When Chan is queried whether PR will return to the negotiation table with SAPP, he confessed that “If PR can’t even agree to the seat allocations among themselves, what is the point of inviting another party to join in the negotiation”
