King Cheu – not a winnable candidate in DAP’s books.
KOTA KINABALU: Incumbent Kota Kinabalu MP Dr Hiew King Cheu is among those Sabah DAP leaders who will be totally dropped from its candidates list for the 13th general election.
According to sources close to Sabah DAP, Hiew was also considered for the Luyang state constituency, but following ‘internal reports’ the DAP central leadership has become wary of Hiew’s loyalty to the party.
Recently, two of its leaders Stephen Jimbangan (former DAP Kepayan Chief) and its vice chairman Edward Ewol Mujie defected to the Barisan Nasional (BN) through UPKO.
Both are close Hiew supporters.
Two other leaders who might face the same fate are its other vice chairman Frederick Fung, and its Kota Kinabalu DAPSY chief Joan Goh.
Foong Hin – displaced in Tawau but needed in Kota Kinabalu.
The reason behind Fung’s removal was said to be due to personal problems, while Joan was said to have upset some senior party leaders.
Hiew is said to be replaced by Sabah DAP Publicity Secretary Chan Fong Hin who was originally slotted for the Tawau parliamentary seat, while replacing Joan is likely to be DAP Sabah assistant secretary, Junz Wong, who is going for the Likas state seat.
Sabah DAP secretary Dr Edwin Bosi is likely to be fielded as a candidate for the Kepayan state seat (within the Penampang parliamentary constituency) but a late switch with PKR is on the cards.
The other potential Sabah DAP candidates are said to be John Khoo, the brother of Sabah MCA chief Datuk Edward Khoo, who is likely to take on the Sandakan MP seat, while Sandakan-based lawyer, Frankie Poon Ming Fung will contest the Tanjung Papat state seat.
DAP Sabah chief Jimmy Wong who is defending his Sri Tanjung state seat is expected to announce itscandidates on Thursday.
