GE13: Alliance, Ewon switch only UPKO surprise

UPKO chief, Bernard Dompok will be defending Penampang, together with UPKO candidates give the battlecry.

KOTA KINABALU: The switch between Paginatan assemblyman Ewon Ebin and Ranau incumbent MP Alliance Siringan Gubat is the only surprise in the UPKO line-up for the 2013 general election.

Announcing UPKO candidates Tuesday morning, UPKO president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok announced that three state assemblymen – Donald Mojuntin (Moyog), John Teo Mau Sing (Kuala Penyu) and Justin Guka (Bingkor) had been dropped.

They were replaced by Dompok’s political secretary Philip Lasimbang in Moyog where he was previously its elected representative, Limus Jury (Kuala Penyu and Kennedy John (Bingkor) Limus and Kennedy are the party’s divisional Youth leaders for Kuala Penyu and Bingkor respectively, in what is seen as the grooming of young leaders.

Upko secretary-general Wilfred Madius Tangau, as expected, will be contesting in Tuaran following the departure from the party of incumbent Wilfred Mojilip Bumburing.

The latter was Upko’s deputy president until July last year when he quit the party and turned opposition friendly.

Also retained by the BN-Upko to defend their respective state seats are incumbent assemblymen Masuing Banah (Kuamut) and Assistant Minister Bobbey Ah Fang Suan (Nabawan).

The list maintains Upko’s status quo in the distribution of seats among the BN’s component party members.

As in the 2008 election, Upko will be contesting in six state seats and four parliamentary constituencies.

Bernard himself will be defending Penampang while Marcus Mojigoh will be defending Putatan.
