GE13: Sabah – LDP to contest for 4 state seats
KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will contest for four Sabah state seats, while its president Datuk V.K. Liew will defend his Sandakan parliament seat.
The 53 year-old Kota Belud born lawyer will defend the Sandakan seat for a second term, which he won with a slim majority of 176 votes in a three-cornered fight against DAP and an independent in the 2008 elections.
"I am more comfortable this time round. I have reached out to the people in Sandakan and have serviced them over the last five years," said Liew, who is Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
"There is also very good cooperation between the Barisan parties in Sandakan to ensure that we retain the seat," added Liew, who is likely to face off with DAP's Wong Ken Fatt as the Sabah Progressive Party has indicated it will not contest in Sandakan.
Businessman Charles Pang, 48, will vie for the Karamunting seat, currently held by his uncle Datuk Peter Pang who left LDP to join Sabah Gerakan three years ago.
Barisan has allocated the Likas seat to LDP (currently held by SAPP), where Youth chief Chin Su Yin will be fielded.
Tanjung Kapor Datuk Teo Chee Kang and Merotai assemblyman Pang Yuk Ming will be defending their seats.
