RCI on illegal immigrants in Sabah to continue on May 20
The royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah will hold its fourth hearing session at the Kota Kinabalu High Court next month.
The 10-day session will begin on May 20. It was initially scheduled for between March 5 and 9, but was postponed.
Commission chairperson Steve Shim Lip Kiong set the date today, after delivering a decision on the application by the Sabah Law Association (SLA) for access to witness statements recorded under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Shim was formerly Sabah and Sarawak chief justice.
The commission’s panel members comprise former Universiti Malaysia Sabah vice-chancellor Professor Dr Kamaruzaman Ampon; former Kuala Lumpur police chief Henry Chin Poy Wu; former Sabah state government secretary Kee Mustafa; and, former Sabah deputy chief minister and former Sabah attorney-general Herman J Luping.
The first hearing session was held for five days, beginning Jan 14.
To date, 62 witnesses had been called to testify.
On March 13, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah extended the RCI proceedings by six months, from March 21 to Sept 20, this year to enable parties to complete the investigation and compilation of reports according to Section 5 of the Commission of Enquiry Act 1950 (Act 119).
The commission was initially given six months to wrap up investigations and present a report with recommendations to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, from the date of the appointment of its panel on Sept 21. It expired on March 20.
Eight terms of reference were outlined, including to enquire into the number of immigrants in Sabah who had been issued blue identification cards or citizenship, and whether such a move was in accordance with the law.

WHO CAN PROVIDE BETTER SECURITY FROM FOREIGN INVASION?
ReplyDeleteUMNO has predictably tried to con(vince) the Sabah people to vote for them in the General Elections because UMNO BN can provide better security from foreign invasion.
If none of us have woken up yet we should ask "Who has been providing this security?"
The blame for the spectacular and disastrous Lahad Datu security failure falls squarely on UMNO's front doorsteps. The buck stops here.
The joke is that if Pakatan gains power in the Federal parliament it will provide the same defective security now in place. This huge security flaw represents UMNO's total failure to keep faith to secure Sabah and Sarawak from illegals invasion for 50 years and the 2013 Sulu armed invasion of Lahad Datu.
The main British/Malayan justification for formation of Malaysia (originally with 5 equal independent partners) was to provide Sabah Sarawak with "security from foreign invasion" plus "prosperity" in 1963.
Since the security and prosperity justifications have never been made good why should Sabah Sarawak bother to remain in Malaysia. There are no more justifications to prop up neo-colonial "Malaysia".
Malaya in breach of the 18/20 Points Agreements (conditions for formation of Malaysia) seized control of Sabah and Sarawak under the 1974 Petroleum Development Act and has over 40 years drained trillions of oil money from both countries.
Sabah and Sarawak each year contribute some $45 Billion from oil and tax revenue for the development of Malaya infrastructures and the leaching of wealth through the UMNO largese (patronage) system.
The security failure blame is on UMNO's front doorsteps. The buck stops here.
Putrid Jaya ($10+ Billion, Sabah Sarawak (Petronas) Twin Towers ($20, KL SMART Tunnel ($250 million) the unsinkable sub-marines (($4 Billion) and billions more on many other grand building and infrastructure projects all in Malaya have been financed by Sabah and Sarawak.
Was the money used efficiently to defend Sabah or Sarawak form the human wave invasion from Indonesia and the Philippines?
It is a real shame that many Malayans misplaced their passion in supporting an imperialist apartheid NEP system that is colonising and pillaging the 2 virtual colonies (in all respects) making them the poorest states of Malaya.
At the same time GLCs linked by "favoured" contracts to UMNO Malay owned companies (Mahathir Najib and other crony families including puppets Taib Mahmud and Musa Aman) are parked on Sabah Sarawak's oil pumps siphoning their wealth.
Many Sabahans and Sarawakians are asking: "Why not spend the next 50 years as free and independent countries like Brunei and Singapore using their own resources to advance their own people and economy?"
The only way to be free and independent is to take back our countries.
