GE13: SAPP plans to give Jimmy the vote in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: SAPP is likely to call on its supporters in Kota Kinabalu to cast their votes in favour of DAP’s Jimmy Wong rather than giving it to the BN or spoiling it.

SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee said he had previously declared “in seats where SAPP is not contesting, we will urge our supporters to vote for the best opposition choice”.

Yong reckoned that it would be better to give Wong (photo) the vote as STAR’s Michael Liew was of unknown quantity.

“Whatever it is, it is SAPP’s aim to deny the BN a victory in Kota Kinabalu,” he added.

However, having said that, Yong quipped that in a straight fight with BN candidate in Kota Kinabalu, any ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’ too could win so long as he/she is from the opposition.

Asked why SAPP did not field its candidate in Kota Kinabalu and even Sandakan, Yong said that he had kept to his gentleman’s agreement with Pakatan Rakyat that SAPP would allow DAP a free hand in these two parliament seats.

“Of course, they didn’t keep to their end of the bargain as they are fielding candidates against us in the four State seats that we are contesting in KK and Sandakan as well as the Sepanggar and Tawau parliament seats which we had asked that SAPP retain,” added Yong.

Asked how he saw support for SAPP after over 10 days of campaigning, Yong said much would depend on the voter mood in the last 24 hours.

However he felt that the opposition had the upper-hand over the BN in several seats.

Asked about his bitter rival Hiew King Cheu who is now standing in Luyang, Yong had this to say.

“He was even rejected by his own members and was ousted by his one-time buddy Jimmy in the party election two years ago, where he only managed to garner two votes.

“That tells a lot about the person, so there’s nothing further to add for now”.
