Man shot dead at Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A man was executed gangland style after stopping at a traffic light at Anson Road here.

The man was gunned down at point blank range by a motorcyclist at around 11.50am on Thursday.

According to George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng, the deceased is a 37-year-old Indian who lives in Air Itam, Penang.

He has three previous convictions for cases involving narcotics.

According to Bernama reports, the victim was named Veerappan Kanapathi.

The victim was driving a  BMW car bore a Kuala Lumpur registration plate, although it is speculated that the car was borrowed from a friend.

It is believed that the assailant fired more than 15 shots as multiple bullet casings were found at the scene.

Asst Comm Gan confirmed that the victim was shot 14 times, mostly on the head.

Penang Hospital pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh was also at the scene.
