Pointing out that DAP’s success in capturing 12 urban seats in the just-concluded state election was a result of the oratorical onslaught and propaganda spread by its west Malaysian members, he reminded the local people to help Sarawak maintain its autonomy by rejecting west Malaysian-based opposition parties.
“Words are mightier than the sword. The words of DAP have turned into a mighty double-edged sword with one slashing their opponents and the other side almost slashing away all Chinese representation in BN.
“We must pledge to uphold BN’s brand of politics of development no matter what! We do not want to have any part or be used as pawns in the power struggle and unfulfilled ambition of Pakatan Rakyat’s de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” said Dr Jerip to the media when attending his appreciation dinner on Saturday.
The dinner at a restaurant at Mile 11 Kuching-Serian Road was held to celebrate his victory in the just-concluded state election where he successfully defended his seat in a four-cornered fight by a majority of 3,646 votes.
Some 400 BN election workers, their families and friends attended the dinner.
In his speech, he disclosed that BN lost by 850 votes in Chinese-majority areas of Siburan and Siniawan, while assuring that the loss was a minor setback as the people would soon realise that only BN can continue the politics of development.
“Opposition issues in the rural areas are not relevant. They touch on issues that had been tackled or are currently looked into by the BN government. We must work together to ensure that everybody would continue to benefit from all development agenda.”
He then thanked all who had worked hard to ensure BN victory in the election and his supporters for their votes.
Dr Jerip garnered 8,093 votes to retain his Bengoh seat after defeating PKR’s Willie Mongin (4,447 votes), independent candidate Wejok Tomik (1,007) and Richard @ Peter Margaret of SNAP (928).
