Chua dares Adnan to move motion on anti-hopping law

Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Vice President and Member of Parliament for Tawau, Datuk Chua Soon Bui expressed her shock by the statement from Datuk Tengku Adnan, the veteran UMNO's call to her and Datuk Eric Majimbun, MP for Sepanggar to resign saying that these MPs won on a BN ticket during his visit to Kalabakan two days ago.
She said the BN secretary-general seemed to be ignorant about the law that once a Member of Parliament or State Assemblyman resigns, the person is not allowed to contest within the next 5 years. If his intention was just to test the support of the people towards SAPP, he should not choose not to be ignorant of the existing law or either he doesn't know about it or is he underestimating the wisdom of the people.

"Tengku Adnan seemed to have forgotten about the 4 ex-PR MPs who have left PKR and PAS to be Independent Members of Parliament, with some who are BN friendly, if the same principle can be applied, why didn't he ask them to resign too since they won on their Pakatan ticket.

"I would like to know from Adnan why he didn't suggest for the dissolution of the Perak state assembly when a few of the PR state assemblymen defected to BN to form the new BN state government. Being a respectable veteran politician, why is he setting a double standard to the rules of law in the democratic process?

"It was not yesterday that SAPP left the ruling BN coalition, Tengku Adnan being the BN secretary-general should have known well enough why SAPP chose to leave the BN coalition on 18th September 2008 frustrated with BN's KL controlled politics of Sabah and aligning itself with Pakatan hoping for a new chapter in Sabah politics and the change in the federal government for a better deal for Sabah.

"SAPP has also strongly advocated its party's 8 points memorandum - which touches on Sabah's sovereignty threatened by the presence of hundreds of thousands illegal immigrants, many of them got their citizenship through dubious means engineered by the BN-Umno government thus changing the political landscape of Sabah. SAPP has dubbed this as the mother of all threats.

"While SAPP has demanded for an Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the illegal immigrants through its signature campaign, why is that Tengku Adnan chose to keep his silence on this?

"The marginalization of the people in Sabah by the federal government has left Sabah economically poor, which was later reconfirmed by the world bank that Sabah is the poorest state in Malaysia despite its rich natural resources and wealth.

Chua felt disappointed that Datuk Tengku Adnan having to make a childish comment like this on his trip coming all the way from Kuala Lumpur.

"Instead, he should be more concerned about Tawau's problems of continuous disruption of electricity supply, disruption of water supply from Chinese New Year until now, the un-explained deaths of 2 innocent lives, the shortages of senior doctors and specialists, insufficient medical supplies and equipment, the appalling roads conditions, the high cost of living and prices of goods as compared to West Malaysia, the more than 800 cases of loss of native customary lands lodged with SUHAKAM and many many more...the sufferings of the people in Sabah was totally ignored.

She hoped Tengku Adnan should be more responsible and answerable to the needs of the people rather than taking a personal shot at SAPP's two Members of Parliament.

She said if he is sincere in solving the hopping problem in Malaysia, and while being in the government, he should move a motion in the parliament on the anti-hopping law.

"He should also abolish the barring of resigned YB to contest within the 5 years term to reform a true democratic election process.

As the parliament will commence on 12 march, 2012, she said it's still not too late for Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan to address and to solve the woes of the people in Sabah in general and Tawau in particular if he still think that Sabah is the fixed deposit for BN.
