Crisis in Umno Kimanis, more demos coming

‘Hundreds’ of Kimanis Umno members want Anifah replaced
KOTA KINABALU: In what appears to be an open confrontation for change, ‘hundreds of Umno members’ in P. 176 Kimanis are demanding that a new candidate be allowed to contest in place of Datuk Anifah Aman to represent the P. 176 Kimanis constitutency in the next general election.
In an interview here yesterday, leaders of the group which are mobilising what they call a Leadership Transformation Movement, said they are demanding for this change because Anifah, who is Malaysia’s current Foreign Minister has been in the Member of Parliament for the area too long and it is time to replace him. So far three demonstrations to voice out this demand had been held, the first in Dewan Kg. Pimping on January 21, 2012, the second in Dewan Lama Pekan Bongawan on the following day, and the third for two days on January 23 to 24 in Dindong, Kg. Bambangan, Membakut.

En. Ag. Kamis Ag. Ahmad (left), who is a member of the division’s Youth Wing and was the organising chairman of the first demonstration in Pimping, said the attendance was about 500 people, while En. Ag. Mohd. Rizam who chaired the organising committee for the Pekan Bongawan demonstration claimed the attendance was more than 700 people.  The third demonstration, according to organiser En. Asno Amat Muda, was attended by about 300 Umno members. All demo participants signed registration books.

Asked as to why the demand for change, Ag. Mohd. Rizam said that Anifah has been the MP for Kimanis for too many terms. “He has represented Kimanis for four terms now,” he said. “Before he was the MP for Kimanis beginning in 2004, he was the MP for Beaufort, which then included Kimanis, beginning in 1999.”

“Our main reason for demanding that he be replaced is the fact that he is not from Kimanis,” Rizam (right) added. “It is long overdue for someone from Kimanis itself to represent this area. The arrangement whereby a constituency is represented by an outsider is outdated and should no longer be practiced by Umno. It is also an insult to the people of Kimanis as if Kimanis doesn’t have anyone qualified to be its own MP.”

Asno from Bambangan, who a member of the Kimanis Umno Divisional Committee, said that it is not in line with the Prime Minister’s 1Malaysia policy to continue with an outsider as their MP. “The 1Malaysia slogan specifically says that it’s ‘people first’, so in this case Umno must listen to what the people of Kimanis want. We demand that our MP be from our own area.”

Kimanis is a Bruneian majority area (about 58 percent), with the second biggest being the Kadazandusuns which comprise about 38 percent of voters, while the rest are Chinese and others. “We are not very particular about what racial identity our next MP will be as long as he or she is from Kimanis,” Asno added. Anifah, who is also the brother of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, is from Bingkul, Beaufort.

The three organisers said that to show the seriousness of the voters in Kimanis about their demand, the series of demonstrations will continue. Asno said that more demonstrations will be held soon, the next ones to be in Kg. Binsuluk, Kg. Madang Pimping, Kg. Biau, Bongawan, and in Kg. Poring which will also be participated by people from nearby Kg. Paung, Kg. Tamalang, and Kg. Pinopok.

‘Beratus-ratus’ ahli Umno Kimanis mahu Anifah dfitukar

Paung, Kg. Tamalang, Kg. Pinopok yang berdekatan.

  8. Kimanis district status next year

Published on: Friday, September 02, 2011, Daily Express

Keningau: Malaysia will be conducting the Asean Peace Forum next year to attract more tourists and corporate members from China, Taiwan, UK and United States to visit the country.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the delegations would also visit the interior.

During a meeting with US President Barrack Obama, he said the latter commended the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak despite the diversity in race and religion in Malaysia.

On another issue, Anifah said Kimanis would become a district next year complete with its own District Office.
On other developments, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun hoped the people, especially the Chinese community, would help the Government attract domestic and foreign tourists, especially from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, to visit Sabah.

This is because after the earthquake-tsunami disaster in Japan, tourists visiting Malaysia from the "Land of the Rising Sun" have significantly decreased, he said.

To this, Upper Interior Tourism Operators Association Chairman, Frankie Tamin, suggested that the World War II Memorial here be upgraded.
Such memorial is a major attraction among the tourists, he said.
Masidi, who agreed to the proposal, urged the Keningau District Officer to submit an official letter to him regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, Anifah advised Sabah MCA to remain united and to assist the Government win the coming general election.

  9. Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre to offer Sabahans career in oil & gas sector

Posted on October 10, 2011, Monday, borneo post

MEMBAKUT, Sabah: The Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre, operated by Petronas, here will offer career opportunities for Sabahans in the state’s oil and gas sector.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the training centre can cater for 50 trainees at any one time and that the involvement of Sabahans was crucial in developing the oil and gas sector, especially the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) in Kimanis which would be fully operational in 2013.

“Rapid development of Sabah’s oil and gas sector can only be ensured if it is supported by skilled and knowledge workforce.

“As such, training programmes conducted at the centre would serve to meet the human capital requirements of this industry,” he said when officiating the training centre’s temporary campus here yesterday.

The text of his speech was read on his behalf, by Anifah’s political secretary Datuk Norhaidi Che Dan.

Anifah, who is also Kimanis Member of Parliament, said Sabahans must realise that the opportunities provided by Petronas should be used wisely to develop their own state and simultaneously improve their socio-economic standing.

He said more than 4,000 employees were required to operate the SOGT which was expected to have a positive impact on the economic well-being of the community.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Petronas Petroleum Management Ramlan A Malek said Petronas was already providing training to Sabah youths in the oil and gas sector while waiting for the permanent campus to be ready in 2013.

A total of 25 youths have become the first batch of trainees to undergo a two-year Industry Control and Instrumentation programme at the training centre since June.

    Pertama, Anifah bukan orang Kimanis,
