Clean up the electorals first

KOTA KINABALU, January 29, 2013: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) youth wing is demanding the Election Commission (EC) to clean up and update the electoral lists which will be used in this coming General Election, said its KK Zone Youth Chief cum an Executive Committee, John Stephen Dionysius.

Commenting on the ongoing hearing of the RCI, John said that few individuals came forward to make confessions, and one namely, Ismail Baka, a Filipino who benefited from the Project IC had voted 5 times during the previous elections and it was believed than many Project IC holders had also voted in many elections held in Sabah.

A senior ex- National Registration Department (NRD) officer, Mohd Nasir Sungip whose confession showed that the NRD is responsible providing dubious names with IC numbers to the Election Commission and registered as voters. A total of 946,638 were registered voters in Sabah and it is estimated that about 200,000 dubious IC holders are in the electoral lists. Another ex-NRD officer, Asli Sidup also made his confession and admitted that he was stationed at a polling centre in Papar to monitor the holders of 200 JPN receipts casting their votes.

"The NRD and the EC knew who these dubious voters are. They are linked together", said John.

John said it is pathetic to know that the present elected government for all these years has been using dirty and filthy tactics to ensure they continue in power citing the former Chief Minister, Osu Sukam of UMNO who won the Papar constituency by defeating Datuk Ariah Tunku Ahmad by a mere 64 votes with the help of Project IC.

"Clean the electoral lists now," John called.

John said if the current electoral lists were not cleaned and removed of all dubious voters, this will prove that the EC condoned such dirty act by allowing the election to go on.
So far, the NRD and EC had been silent since the revelation of RCI over the allegations of "citizenship-for-votes".

The election commission should listen to the people's grievances that they want a clean and fair election. Meanwhile, SAPP youths in its seriousness will stage a peaceful gathering in coming weeks to demand the Election Commission (EC) to act immediately to clean up the electoral lists before ahead of the general elections.

  2. THE RCI SHOWS IS THERE NO POINT TO HOLD ELECTIONS WHEN THE SYSTEM IS SO THOROUGHLY RIGGED BY UMNO BN IN ITS FAVOUR

To hold the elections at this time means UMNO will win a landslide victory owing to its ability to shift and spread its phantom/illegals/instant voters in various constituencies to outnumber the opposition.

The RCI revealed that this was done in the previous elections.

This process of shifting voters on paper (with a click of the button on the computer) has been implemented in Sabah and also Malaya. It is unclear what is happening in Sarawak.

So knowing this fact means if the electoral rolls are not thoroughly purged of the instant voters, UMNO will ensure its victory. That is why some UMNO people are saying they will win for sure. We should listen to them.

But how to clean out the worm ridden system when UMNO will not do this and it can dissolve Parliament any minute now?

Further since the UMNO government got elected by its own fraudulent means, it is an illegitimate government as Jeffrey Kitingan and others are saying.

Clearly UMNO has no mandate since at least the last 3 GE elections. It has been illegal all along.

What are we as citizens doing about this?

There is the peaceful legal way to sack UMNO by issuing proceedings to seek injunctions to delay the elections on basis of the fraud and declaration that UMNO is illegally in power and ask for the forming of a care taker government to first clean up the rolls and then hold elections.

The other solution is no a solution.

For example the Police has already warned and threatened us with May 13 if we hold "post-election demonstrations".

May 13 aside, what can demonstrations achieve unless we have the determination of those in the Arab Spring? Even now the Egyptians are still desperately storming the barricades after they threw out Mubarak.

If you are alert you would have spotted the ball.

Why is the Police assuming UMNO will win and there will be demonstrations. We cannot expect the Police warning to apply to UMNO unless they thought UMNO will lose and are warning UMNO people not to demonstrate?

Is that possible? The warning seems to be based on the presumption of the likelihood that the opposition will loose the elections and hence challenges to the results. Since the top cops at least are willing tools of UMNO and not real public servants we can assume that they were privy to how the electoral roll have been "fixed" and victory for UMNO is guaranteed.

Well Sabahans you are leading the charge- show us that you can mount the court challenge without delay.

  3. It is not possible for any country to ensure its electoral roll is 100 percent clean, the Election Commission (EC) says, for the list will be affected by daily occurrences of deaths as well as changes in addresses as people move about the country.

  5. "How clean do you want it to be? What kind of detergent do we need to use?" said EC chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

  6. He stressed that in spite of revelations to the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on immigrants in Sabah, the electoral roll for the state - and for the rest of the country - was as clean as these could be made.

  7. "Believe us, the electoral roll is clean. As far as the EC is concerned, we only accept citizens with blue MyKad as voters. As for how they got the identity card, that's (under the purview of) the National Registration Department (NRD),” he said.

  8. Before the names are entered into the roll, the EC carries out a “vigorous check” with the NRD to ensure that those being registered are citizens and are alive.

  9. He also appealed to members of the public to be proactive and check their details for discrepancies and update the EC with their latest details and addresses.

  10. Asked to comment on the ongoing RCI, Abdul Aziz refused to touch on the testimonies of the witnesses.

"I have been advised not to comment as the proceedings are still going on. Four EC officers are waiting to testify and they will answer any and all questions that the commission may ask," he said.
