IPOH - They lived in a squalid house, and earned a living by spraying pesticide. Neighbours say the couple could often be heard quarrelling.
Yesterday, K. Ashahkumar, 36, and his wife V. Panumathy, 38, were found with their throats slit in what may have been a fatal final quarrel.
Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the incident occurred at about 1am.
It was learnt from neighbours that the couple were heard quarrelling with each other at their house in Kampung Ayer Tawar near Manjung here yesterday.
Ashahkumar was found wrapped in a mattress in the living room of their wooden house in the village, while Panumathy was found unconscious in the middle of the road about 100m from the house.
Neighbours who rushed to Panumathy’s aid called for an ambulance and alerted police to the tragedy.
A medical team that arrived in an ambulance found Ashahkumar dead at the scene from severe loss of blood.
Panumathy was rushed to the Manjung Hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
“Panumathy had injuries on her neck and head. We do not rule out the possibility that the incident could have been caused by a misunderstanding between the couple. Or it may have been a robbery,” said DCP Mohd Shukri.
He added that investigations were still ongoing and the case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
