Lower tariff like Sarawak, says SAPP

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) thanked Sandakan MP Stephen Wong Tien Fatt for supporting the party's manifesto to take back Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) for Sabah.

Its Vice President Chong Pit Fah said SAPP first announced its call in 2012 in Tawau, while former Luyang Assemblywoman Melanie Chia Chui Ket had also proposed to the State Government to take back the ownership of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd in the State Legislative Assembly.

It was then incorporated into SAPP's election manifesto for the 13th General Election.

"Although SAPP now does not have any elected representative in the State Assembly or Parliament for this term, our ideas and policies are being proven to be valid, practical and doable just like the Sabah IC and land reform proposals, among others," he said in a statement, here, Saturday.

Chong said Sabah could also learn a lesson or two from the announcement by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the Sarawak State Budget session recently that next year Sarawak electricity tariffs will be reduced.

"Sabah can do the same. Sarawak will reduce electricity tariff up to 50 per cent, starting from January 2015."

Wong, who is also DAP Sabah Deputy Chief, had said in Parliament that Tenaga Nasional Berhad should return the management of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to the Sabah State Government as it has failed to manage the utility company efficiently.
