Aug 14 Court to hear bid by Edge to lift suspension

KUALA LUMPUR - The High Court will decide on Friday whether to temporarily lift the three-month suspension of The Edge's two business publications.

Judge Datuk Asmabi Mohamad set the date after hearing submissions from lawyers acting for The Edge, the home minister and the home ministry's secretary-general.

Counsel Darryl Goon appeared for applicant The Edge while senior federal counsel Alice Loke Yee Ching appeared for the minister and the secretary-general, the two respondents in the matter.

The Edge, which is a news and investment publisher, is seeking temporary lifting of the suspension pending disposal of its legal challenge against the ministry's suspension order.

The ministry suspended the printing permit of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily for three months that took effect on July 27.

Among the reasons given for the suspension was that the Edge's reporting on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) was based on doubtful and unverified information, which might alarm the public and could be prejudicial to public order and national interest.
