4 people missing off Sabah for 10 days found alive

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency says the four people whose boat went missing off Sabah last week have been found after a 10-day search off the northern tip of Sabah.

Four people whose boat went missing on May 3 off the coast of Sabah have been found alive, Malaysian authorities said on Thursday (May 12).

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) said the four were found by Vietnamese fishermen and are now safe in Vietnam. Malaysian search and rescue personnel had been conducting an ongoing search for the four off the northern tip of Sabah.

The four who went missing are Chinese national Tommy Lam; Spanish tourists David Hernandes Gasula, 29, and Marta Miguel, 30; and Malaysian Armella Ali Hassan, 23.

MMEA had said last week they believed the boat was drifting in the sea off Kudat, Sabah, after its engine failed. Malaysian authorities deployed maritime vessels, a helicopter, a C-130 military plane as part of the search.
