Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar parliamentary by-elections to be held simultaneously

KUALA LUMPUR - The Election Commission (EC) has set the date for the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar parliamentary by-elections to be held simultaneously on June 18.

Early voting will be held on June 14, which falls on a Tuesday, EC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah announced at a press conference today.

He said nomination date is fixed on June 5, 2016.

The two seats fell vacant following the death of Datuk Wan Mohamad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad and Datuk Noriah Kasnon who died in the helicopter crash on May 5 in Sebuyau, Sarawak.

They were among the six who died in the crash.

Others who perished in the crash were Noriah's husband Asmuni Abdullah, her bodyguard Ahmad Sobri Harun, Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Sundaran Annamalai and Filipino pilot Rudolf Rex Ragas.

The helicopter left Betong at 4.12pm on May 5 and should have arrived in Kuching at about 5pm.
