City deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali said a team from the City Police Licensing Department conducted 815 checks on armed guards and static guards in various locations including schools, shopping malls, banks, jewelry shops, money changers, neighbourhood areas and construction sites.
The operations were joined by several city police departments which included the Management Department, Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, and district police chiefs.
Police also arrested 32 security guards for other offences including testing positive for drugs (3); expired visa (2), on the police wanted list (1); on a police warrant (1); permit abuse (23); fake identification documents (1); and permanent resident (1). Police also seized four unlicensed pumpguns.
"City police will continue to check on the security guards from time to time to make sure that they are working within the law as to ensure the public's safety," said Abdul Hamid.
In an unrelated case, a 40-year old man was arrested after carrying out 15 robberies using a fake pistol which he bought online.
Cheras police arrested him at Bandar Mahkota Cheras yesterday.
"Last week, the gun-toting suspect had robbed a sundry shop at Alam Damai 2, Cheras. Pointing a gun at the cashier's stomach, he took RM1,100 from the cash machine and fled in a black Proton Iswara. His image was captured on the closed-circuit television," said Abdul Hamid.
Following the investigation, police formed a task force and nabbed the suspect who was working in a car accessory shop.
Police seized an original rifle, three empty magazines, and a mask believed to have been used for the robbery.
The suspect has no criminal records.
