Anwar: I'm not the man in the sex video

Kuek Ser Kuang Keng

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has categorically denied that he is the person in the sex video that was exposed this morning.

He described the allegation as new round of defamation attacking him and his family, which was coordinated by the "highest authority".

"The initial screening (of the video) for selected media was coordinated at the highest authority and it can only happen in the national political system with the direct support of the ruling authority and it also involves security forces and Special Branch, with the help of advanced devices."

NONEThe senior editors of mainstream media were also part of this “desperate act”, said the PKR de facto leader.
Anwar said he was at home with his staff, wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, children and grandchildren at the time the video was allegedly recorded.

He said he had updated his Twitter account at that time, which would prove that he is not the person in the video.
“Unless you see me twitting during the act,” said the smiling Anwar.

However a check on Anwar's Twitter history showed that the entries was posted at 9.20pm and 11.39pm, but there was no entry between 10.23pm to 10.45pm which the video was allegedly recorded.

(It was also noted that according to his Facebook page, numerous updates were posted that night, including 12 posts between 10.09pm and 10.52pm. It is unsure at this point if the posts could have been automatically generated.)

Although Anwar never watched the video, he said those who watched it this morning told him that the person in the video had a “much bigger stomach” compared to him.

He even stood up to let reporters take photographs of his abdomen, drawing a round of laughter from some 50 reporters.

“This indicates that it is a good job but not a perfect job done.”

The Permatang Pauh MP held the press conference at PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya in the late afternoon today, together with Wan Azizah and other PKR leaders.

'I don't know who is Datuk T'

He said that he does not know the mysterious 'Datuk T' who screened the video to media this morning.

“I don't know the source (of the video) and who (Datuk T) is. He asked me and Wan Azizah to step down within one week. His motive is clear.”

Asked on the Omega watch he allegedly lost in the hotel where the video was recorded, Anwar only confirmed that he has an Omega watch and his watches were kept by Wan Azizah.

NONEAnwar commented that this latest slander has proven that the Sodomy II charges against him have failed to undermine Pakatan's and his political advancement.

“My political enemies are desperate therefore they are forced to create new slander to tarnish my reputation,” he said.

“We demand the national political leaders and Pakatan's political enemies to stop the gutter and dirty politics. Don't drag the people and nation into your gutter and dirty politics.”

He called on all PKR and Pakatan members and supporters not to be distracted by the allegation but instead focus their attention on the coming Sarawak state polls.

Anwar said he would investigate the matter but remained non-committal whether he would lodge a report to the police over the video.

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president, echoed that the allegation is politically motivated.

“I'm shocked that I was asked to resign. What have I done?" she asked.
"If Anwar was alleged to have affair with men, why there is a video showing him with a woman?”

In a related development, Prime Minister Najib Razak said that the police were not involved in the recording of the alleged sex video.
