Sabah PAS: We'll welcome Lajim to join our ranks

By David Thien

Sabah PAS Youth Chief Lahirul Latigu said his party welcomes Umno Beaufort MP Lajim Ukin to join its ranks to continue his political struggle with PAS and Pakatan Rakyat.

The Islamist party is seen as the weakest among Sabah’s opposition parties and could provide the best leadership position prospects for Lajim.

Lahirul also said PAS would consider accepting other politicians and community leaders regardless of their position and background.

“PAS has gone through numerous experiences with professionals such as doctors, lawyers and ordinary people joining PAS. We never block the entry of people into our party,” he said.

Lajim (right) said in Labuan recently that he was ready to be sacked from Umno and that he would consider the view of his supporters as to which opposition party he should join.

Meanwhile, federal and Sabah state leaders are not according any significance to Lajim’s intention to hop over to the opposition.

No federal and Sabah BN leaders have yet blasted Lajim for his stance or attempted to discredit his assertion that his MP’s development funds for his constituency were cut after he became critical.

Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman as the state BN chief did not comment on Lajim’s intention or accusation at a Sabah Energy Corporation function yesterday.

A political turnaround could be in progress as had happened in the past.

Only Sabah BN secretary Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who is also Kota Belud MP, had in a terse comment expressed regret over Lajim’s stated desire to cross over to the other side of the political divide.

“Beaufort BN would now be able to formulate strategies clearly without uncertainties,” he said.

“BN’s success in developing this country in the past 50 years is not due to individual personalities.

‘Collective wisdom’

“It is the collective wisdom of all BN leaders that made it happen.

“In the next general election, the people of Sabah will vote for progress, development, peace and security which are the cornerstones of the Barisan Nasional government under the leadership of Najib Abdul Razak and Musa Aman.

“Both leaders have rolled out many successful and effective programmes to reduce poverty, help the poor, increase economic activities, provide employment and business opportunities as well as giving more democratic space to all Malaysians.

“This will be the basis of the people’s support for BN in the coming election,” Dahlan said.

Most Malay mainstream newspapers in the state ignored the news, with some English dailies treating it as a footnote in the inside pages. The cold shoulder treatment response is not new.

It was similar to the treatment accorded to the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) when its leadership was critical of the then-prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, while the party was waiting for the BN to sack it from the nine-party coalition in Sabah, instead of quitting.

The SAPP, after a protracted period of coming under criticism, eventually left the BN on its own.

  2. The picture is very correct. In olden China, traitors on the battlefield and sometimes in ordinary times are tied all 4 hands and legs to a horse each. The horses are then pulled in 4 different directions tearing apart the hands and legs from the body. That my friends are torture and death for a traitor. So very correct so don't be surprised Mr. Lajim will be deadwood come PRU-13.

  4. HAPPY SARAWAK INDEPENDENCE DAY 22 JULY 1963!
    (Part 1)
Fellow Sarawakians today, on this date we were “freed” from British colonial domination and rule in 1963.

For these 34 days we were the nominal master of our destiny. But how quickly this freedom was taken away by the same colonial master.

Within 34 days on 16 September 1963 we lost that “independence” which we hardly sniffed at. (SABAH had 1 day of independence on 31 Aug 1963)

On this independence day we should at least be aware that we are not really independent yet. Many are deluded by the British/Malayan imposed “independence in Malaysia”.

We lost all the rights we would have if we had that independence starting with control of our destiny and resources. We never saw any of the most important parts of the 18 Points complied with by Malayan UMNO.

So what does 34 days of freedom mean to us?

It was just a transition into a new phase of colonial rule by the new brown skin colonial masters called UMNO BN within the neo-colonial structure of Malaysia. Sabah and Sarawak were annexed by Malaya in 1963!

We became doubly burdened with colonialism and the UMNO Malay supremacist system under which institutionalized the apartheid NEP.

What else did we get from this “Malaysia” bargain? We were GUARANTEED and promised and re-assured that we would not be colonized again but will enjoy “security prosperity and progress” with “self-rule” and Borneonisation.

Instead everyday we are paying a very high price to be in “Malaysia” and got back virtually nothing of value. We even have to beg Kuala Lumpur to give back some of our own oil money for “development”.

We got robbed blind by UMNO BN of our oil and gas and stripped bare our timberland with all its rich resources with the collaboration of the local traitor regime over 48 years. This is “colonialism”.

This reality has hit not just the intellectuals but common people in their hundreds of thousands that the fake independence in Sarawak has brought more poverty and suffering which the grand promises of “Malaysia” said would be eradicated.

The situation in Sabah is replicated and made worse but the overwhelming invasion of “illegals” allowed under PM Mahathir’s rule as a form of political leverage for votes and a source of cheap labour to exploit our land and resources.

The UMNO BN breaches of the Sarawak 18 Points and Sabah 20 Points agreements is seen in the long list of failures of the British/Malayan idea for us but a great success for Malayans who developed Malaya by stealing our resources.

In the past 49 years corrupt rulers like Mahathir and his cronies, Sarawak PBB BN Taib & Co and Sabah BN leaders also enriched themselves at our expense beyond our dreams from their abuse of power and corruption.

There is an great up swell of anger spreading amongst the people everywhere especially the thousands of dispossessed NCR people about their woes in “Malaysia” and against the system that caused their sufferings.

  5. HAPPY SARAWAK INDEPENDENCE DAY 22 JULY 1963!

    (Part 2)

On this day we need to sit up and ask ourselves why are we still hanging on to the Malaysia illusion? Should we not do something to get us out of this predicament.

In Sabah over 230,000 people have signed a petition to demand a review of the Malaysia Agreement supported by 27,500 signatures from Sarawak and over Malayan 5000 signatures. The last time a review was called for in 1973 it was flatly rejected by PM Abdul Razak, Najib’s father. So will the son ignore our demands?

This petition for a review is supposed to be presented to the British government and or through a legal review in the British courts. It would be more useful to present the signatures as a demand for de-colonization at the United Nations. Can we still trust the UK government not to mention the United Nations? They both sanctioned the imposition of Malaysia on Sabah and Sarawak

As part of this review is the issue that the Malaysia Agreement is not binding because the “Malaysia concept” of 4 equal partners had broken down and therefore no longer binding on the parties. There are 2 aspects of this breakdown.

The first aspect is that “original” Malaysia concept was a federation of an equal partnership of 4 independent states.

This changed in 1965 when Singapore left the federation. However, the constitutional power arrangement was re-engineered in favour of Malaya by UMNO unilaterally to give it power to dominate Sabah and Sarawak. So at the beginning the partnership understandings and agreements were breached by Malayan UMNO. The UMNO rationale of racial balance to justify Malaysia also collapsed as the Malays became the majority.

In fact the British and Malayans first sold their idea by proposing the “real” original concept to include Brunei in a federation of 5 equal independent states. Brunei chose not to be in Malaysia when the sultan became aware that UMNO only wanted to control Brunei oil and was so greedy that they would not even consider giving the Sultan the concession of becoming Head of State.

The second aspect is the UMNO breach of all the guarantees and rights in the 18 and 20 Points Agreement incorporated the Malaysia Agreement. These are the terms and conditions of Sabah and Sarawak becoming equal partners of the federation.

A third argument that has not been pursued is that the “Malaysia federation” idea had been bi-laterally imposed on Sabah and Sarawak by Britain and Malaya with great undue political pressure and armed force and the rationales pushed by the 2 governments to justify Malaysia

This process of setting up “Malaysia” was legitimized with a highly questionable “enquiry” on the people’s wishes and then suppression of the Brunei anti-Malaysia independence Uprising in Dec 1962. The resistance against Malaysia had continued in the Sarawak guerrilla war from 1962 to 1990. Despite such strong opposition Malaysia was then legitimized with a hilly questionable “enquiry” on the people’s wishes and later sanctioned by the United Nations.

There is also a “GoPetition” campaign to take Sabah and Sarawak out of Malaysia on the internet by the London based Sabah & Sarawak Keluar Malaysia movement (SSKM).

The SSKM has organised the commemoration of Sarawak Independence Day in London, Kuching and many Sarawak towns, in Kuala Lumpur and even Dubai.

  6. HAPPY SARAWAK INDEPENDENCE DAY 22 JULY 1963!

On this day we should all think seriously about the next 50 years. Should we choose to stay or choose to take our country out of Malaysia?

That choice is for each of us to make regardless of elections. We can use the elections to vote out UMNO BN as a registration of our protest and aspiration to be free from foreign domination.

If the Malaysia Agreement is not binding on Sabah and Sarawak then we should be able to walk free. But with the Malayan colonial government and occupation army in actual control of Sabah and Sarawak, we should be demanding withdrawal of the Malayan army and de-colonization at the UN instead of gathering signatures to seek a review with the British government.

If we are determined and united as a force we can free ourselves from foreign Malayan UMNO colonial domination.

Today raise the Sarawak Flag and fly the Malayan colonial flag upside down!

  7. On 31 August 2012, so shall all patriotic Sabahans celebrate the 49th anniversary of Sabah's independence. On 16 September 2012, Malaysia shall only be 49 years old. How is it the Federal Govt and the Sabah State Govt is celebrating 55 years of Malaysia's independence?
Will the Umno/BN State Govt of Sabah celebrate 49 years of Sabah's independence on 31 August 2012. All will all the Sabah Umno/BN leaders be traitors to Sabah?
