Table and pass Referendum Bill, Parliament urged

KUCHING - Parliament is urged to look into the feasibility of tabling and passing a Referendum Bill to provide a means for Malaysians to address and solve major issues that are too critical for MPs alone to decide.

SUPP deputy secretary-general Sih Hua Tong, who made the call yesterday, said every citizen ought to participate in deciding the outcome of some major issues particularly those concerning their rights and sovereignty rather than to leave their fate to Parliament.

“Take a look at the composition of our Parliament and one can tell that it is not in favour of Sarawak or Sabah when it comes to issues being put to a vote. Whatever the outcome of the voting, it will not be in the interest of Sarawak. How to vote,” he told a press conference at the party’s headquarters here.

There are 222 MPs in Parliament while only 31 of them are from Sarawak and 25 from Sabah.
