Kudat plane crash: investigations on...2 dead (updated)

KUDAT - Investigators have begun combing through the crash site of the
MASwings Twin Otter where a co-pilot and passenger were killed in Kudat on Thursday.

The official from the accident unit of the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) were seen taking photographs and also studying various aspects of the aircraft whose front portion is mangled.

The cockpit the Canadian-made aircraft was part badly mangled and the right wing was ripped off.

Initial indication from surviving passengers was that the plane was making a second attempt to land on the 900m airstrip when it was believed to have blown off before hitting a tree and crashing into a
house.

The two occupants in the house were unhurt.

MASwings chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya also turned up at the crash site early Friday to meet with the house owner while also checking the doomed aircraft at Kampung Sin San.
Apart from the two deaths, four other passengers, including the 58-year-old pilot, suffered injuries, while the remaining 10 passengers suffered minor injuries.

In Kota Kinabalu, a post mortem is being conducted on co-pilot Mark Joel Bansh, 23 and passenger Tan Ah Chai, 69, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.

Mark ‘s distraught father Harel Bansh and mother Eva Ooi, were seen outside the mortuary earlier this morning.
