The Tawau Education Office directive to schools in the district to complete a survey revealing the political leanings of teachers demands an investigation, SAPP's Tawau MP Chua Boon Sui said today.

Debating the royal address in Parliament, Chua said the matter should be viewed seriously as it could "adversely impact teachers".

"Does the ministry allow this? What is the motive behind it and is the officer-in-charge abusing his powers to instruct (the survey be done)?" she asked, calling also for the results of the probe to be made public.

After my housemanship, I was sent to Ranau to serve in the district hospital. What Dr Hams described in Kota Marudu is not something isolated to that district alone in Sabah. KOTA KINABALU: The Education Department should be given greater empowerment on decision-making and the implementation of development projects, especially maintenance, training and recruitment of teachers.

"Allow us to manage our own allocations based on the concept 'Let managers rnanage'and so on," said State Education Director Datuk Dr Muhiddin Yusin.

"Currently the department is not empowered to manage any allocation for development even if it is for projects costing below RM500,000," he said.
