Religious and Racial Unity Not BN Govt's priority

By Jeswan Kaur

Since when has Christianity become the 'enemy of the state', so much so that a seminar is deemed necessary to brainwash young Muslims into hating everything to do with Christianity?

Does religious harmony count for anything in this country of 28 million people? Hardly, as far as the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is concerned.

IGP gaffe on Christmas caroling needing police permit, a bad sign for Malaysia

By Dr Nicholas James Guntobon

KENINGAU: The Christian communities in Sabah were shocked to read newspapers reports that a top police officer was said to have said police permit is needed for churches to do their Christmas caroling.

We are aware that there are a growing number of civil servants who are not familiar with religious sensitivities in this country. But to take no less than the IGP for such a blunder is not so good a sign of what we could expect from some of the senior officers in Malaysian civil service which is increasingly dominated by one race/religion.

Government’s handout doesn’t mean freedom of religion

I can’t blame the head of the MIC in Sabah for heaping praises on the government for helping the Hindu temples in Kota Kinabalu with a gift of RM50,000. A thank you is only natural and expected for any gift but I feel he has gone overboard by saying it was a proof that there is freedom of religion in Malaysia!

Institutional Racism and Religious freedom in Malaysia

Institutional racism is the process by which people from ethnic minorities are systematically discriminated against by a range of public and private bodies. If the result or outcome of established laws, customs or practices is racially discriminatory, then institutional racism can be said to have occurred.

PAS cooking up a lot religious nonsense

By Daniel John

Which Christian can help being angered by the accusation by PAS’ problematic Hasan Ali that Christian missionaries are using eight ways to proselytize Muslims - one of which included using a rather far-fetched ‘solar-powered handheld talking Bible.’ He also said that Christians were setting up welfare groups that handed out financial and other forms of assistance to single mothers, the poor, the elderly and others with inducements including daily provisions, capital for business purposes and other aid.

Perkasa denies seeking ban on Christian teachers

Malays rights NGO Perkasa has denied that it issued a call for Christian teachers to be barred from teaching in public schools.

Asserting this today, Ibrahim Ali accused unnamed quarters of creating stories and spreading them on Perkasa’s behalf without the authority to do so.

"I am Perkasa president. We never made this proposal, as was stressed in the policy speech in our recent AGM, we stand for racial harmony,” Ibrahim (Independent-Pasir Mas) told the Dewan Rakyat in Parliament this morning.

Anti-apostasy rally dangerous and will sow tensions

Unlike Bersih, Himpun gets super-fast permit but denies Umno links

Despite denials of being linked to Umno, Himpun organisers were given super-swift access to a permit to hold their Gathering of a Million Muslims on October 22 inside a stadium in Selangor.

This is in sharp contrast to the long drawn out saga involving the Bersih 2.0 rally for free and fair elections, which was outlawed and ended up with Prime Minister Najib Razak reneging on his promise to allow the rally to take place in a stadium of Bersih's choice.

Dangerous precedence in Sultan’s involvement in DUMC case

The decision to use the Sultan of Selangor to make decision with regards to the incidence of alleged proselytization at the Damansara Utama Methodist church dinner has set a dangerous precedence because of several reasons. The people of Malaysia, regardless of the ethnic background and creed are all directly involved and affected by this historic case in which the Sultan, as the head of Muslim affairs in Selangor, make a legal decision on the very sensitive matter.

Perkasa threatens action if no punishment for Ambiga, Anwar, DAP???

Ibrahim said Perkasa members were
losing faith with the Najib administration
By Clara Chooi

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Malay rights group Perkasa threatened today to “do something” to the government if it fails to take action over three outstanding matters — Bersih 2.0’s “illegal rally”, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged sex video and DAP’s “Christian conspiracy”.

Its president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, broke a long silence to say that Perkasa members have begun to lose confidence in the Najib administration, claiming it had failed to uphold the rule of law.

Unnecessary paranoia over 'proselytising' of Musliims

By Kamar

It is just unimaginable that a former PKR leader like Ezam Mohd Nor to have such extremist behaviour in his so-called jihad against what was called proselytising of Muslims.

From a person who formerly supported PKR  for its moderate stand on religion and race, I quite ponder whether it is worth the effort to support them and that is to say whether it is Umno, PKR or Pas, they are all from the same stock?

Harapan Komuniti breaks silence on Jais raid

The non-governmental organisation behind the dinner that has become the centre of controversy after it was raided by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) has broken its silence.

In a statement issued today, the NGO - which works with the poor and 'downtrodden' and people living with HIV and AIDS - its executive director Raymond Koh said that 'thanksgiving' dinner was attended by "donors, friends and beneficiaries of Harapan Komuniti" before it was raided by 30 Jais and police officers.
